Welcome Week kicks off the year
USC President C. L. Max Nikias joins in as the university welcomes new and returning Trojans with a week of special events. But settle in quickly: Classes start Monday.
Earl Paysinger spent 40 years with the LAPD, many of them on the streets of South L.A. In his new post as USC vice president of civic engagement, he’s using that experience to connect with the families that leave around USC’s campuses.
Using soccer fields as common ground, USC volunteers teamed up with students from Uganda’s Makerere University as part of a public health immersion camp, planning educational sessions and spending a week in the villages leading lectures, games and discussions with local kids.
The university remains the leader among U.S. schools for most all-time medals and gold medals, and continues its streak of having won a gold medal at every Summer Olympics since 1912. The contingent of 44 Trojans in Rio was the most of any American university.
