Students in Keith Plocek’s surf journalism class dig deep, going beyond clichés to find out what makes Southern California’s beach community tick.
Influential artist, scholar and educator Mary Kelly is known for projects that address issues of sexuality, identity and collective memory. She joins the USC Roski faculty, providing mentorship and educational opportunities to the art and design school’s students.
The George Lucas Family Foundation has expanded its support of student diversity with a second $10 million endowment to the USC School of Cinematic Arts. The gift will provide scholarships for African-American and Hispanic students in undergraduate and graduate programs.
The letters are out, and university admissions staff made tough decisions to select students from 56,000 applicants — an increase of 3.5 percent from last year and the most ever for the university. One in seven incoming freshmen — 14 percent — is first in their family to attend college.
