| CSSF Qualification Issues: |
1. Students attending schools in San Mateo or Sonoma Counties cannot qualify to CSSF through the San Francisco Bay Area Science Fair, though they are eligible to participate in SFBASF for the many other opportunities offered there, including the opportunity to qualify to the International Science & Engineering Fair. Students in San Mateo County may qualify to CSSF only through the San Mateo County Science Fair, while Sonoma County students may qualify only through the Sonoma County Science Fair.
2. The authority for qualifying students from Solano County is divided along geographical lines, not county boundaries. The San Francisco Bay Area Science Fair is authorized to qualify to CSSF students attending schools in communities in southern Solano County bordering the San Francisco Bay. See the Sacramento Regional Science & Engineering Fair for its area of authority. Further, this authority to qualify Solano County students is in transition and will not be continued beyond 2013. Beginning in 2014, all Solano County students who wish to qualify to participate in CSSF must do so through the Solano County Science Fair. Solano County students will continue to be able to participate in SFBASF for the opportunities there, such as possible qualification to ISEF, but will simply not be eligible to qualify to CSSF there. Again, this policy will be enforced beginning next year, 2014. 3. The authority for qualifying students from Contra Costa County is divided along geographical lines, not county boundaries. The San Francisco Bay Area Science Fair is authorized to qualify to CSSF students attending schools in communities in western Contra Costa County. See the Contra Costa County Science & Engineering Fair for its area of authority. |
| Comments: |
1. Since this fair does not accept team projects among its participants, such projects have no qualification route to CSSF. We therefore advise students and teachers in schools in the areas enumerated in the “Authorization” section above not to initiate science projects based upon teams if attendance at CSSF is a potential goal.
2. Since this fair does not accept students in grade 6, such students attending schools within the areas enumerated in the “Authorization” section above have no qualification mechanism to CSSF. 3. This fair is also an ISEF affiliate. |
