French 220 is an intermediate course for students who have taken French 150 at USC or have placed into this level through the USC placement exam. The class meets four times per week and is taught entirely in French. There is a multimedia companion website with self-correcting grammar and vocabulary activities as well as audio recordings and videos accompanying the main text, Intrigue. In this course, a mystery story serves as the point of departure for a language adventure that includes the study of Francophone cultures, literary texts, language functions, grammar, and vocabulary. During the final weeks of the semester, students read, analyze, and discuss L'Etranger by Albert Camus, a literary and philosophical masterpiece of the 20th century. Prerequisite: FREN 150 or appropriate placement score.
