Dennis F. Dougherty Senior Vice President, Finance Chief Financial Officer

As senior vice president for finance and chief financial officer, Dennis F. Dougherty is responsible for financial and business support systems for the university's faculty, students and staff, including budget and planning, treasury, comptroller, financial services and payroll.

Dougherty came to USC in 1981 as vice president and comptroller and was named vice president for finance in 1985. He was appointed senior vice president in July 1990.

In September 1990, he was elected chairman of the board of the influential Council on Governmental Relations, a Washington-based national organization of research universities that recommends policies and regulations regarding federally sponsored research.

In 1994 Dougherty received the Distinguished Business Officer Award from the National Association of College and University Business Officers, and was appointed to the NACUBO board the following year. In 1997 he was appointed secretary to the corporation and became a member of the executive committee of the NACUBO board. In 1996 he was elected chairman of The Listening Post Group, an organization of senior administrative and financial officers of the 26 private AAU universities.

Before joining USC, he was comptroller at the University of Pennsylvania. He was also chief financial officer and comptroller of Atlantic Human Resources and the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, and assistant comptroller at Drexel University.

He has been a guest lecturer in university finance at Penn's Graduate School of Education and served as a consultant both to the National Institutes of Health and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accreditation Commission.

Dougherty was one of six individuals to receive an honorary degree at USC's 2005 Commencement.
