Janis B. McEldowney was named associate senior vice president for administrative operations in 2002. As associate senior vice president, she oversees a number of departments that provide central services relative to employment.
The Administrative Operations division includes the following departments: Policy Development and Communications facilitates the development and communication of all university policies to the workforce, producing both electronic and printed publications; Personnel Services advises more than 3,656 supervisors and over 125 department-level human resource representatives on matters of university employment policy, best practices, and compliance with federal and state employment law; the Office of Equity and Diversity investigates complaints by faculty, staff and students who believe themselves to be harmed by unfair treatment, sexual harassment, discrimination and harassment related to issues that have protected class status; the Employee Relations Office facilitates dispute resolution for workplace complaints brought forward by staff employees; Benefits Administration is responsible for benefits enrollment and counseling for more than 11,000 benefits-eligible faculty and staff; Retirement Plan Administration oversees administration of retirement plans serving mor than 30,000 active and former employees; and Child Care Programs provides subsidized child care for nearly 200 children of faculty, staff and students.
McEldowney has worked with the university since 1979, serving in a variety of operational, administrative support and advisory roles. She has a master of business administration degree and a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy and English, both from the University of Southern California.
