Thom Rhue
Associate Senior Vice President for University Advancement

As associate senior vice president in the Division of University Advancement, Thom Rhue is responsible for annual giving, the USC Associates, foundation relations, the Parents’ Fund, University Advancement Communication and Research Services, and central university projects.

Rhue returned to USC to assume his current position after serving as director of development at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) from 2004 to 2006. Prior to that, he was managing director of development for the USC Gould School of Law. Trained as an educational sociologist, Rhue is a former deputy assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Education and previously served as assistant dean of graduate studies and director of African and Afro-American studies at Stanford University, where he was also an assistant professor of sociology.

Currently, he serves as Los Angeles chairman, together with honorary chairman Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, of the youth anti-violence project Do the Write Thing, an initiative of the National Campaign to Stop Violence based in Washington, D.C.

Rhue holds a B.A. from the University of Redlands, an M.A. from the University of Southern California and a Ph.D. from Stanford.
