It took a dancer to teach robots how to move with grace.
Apostolos — director of dance and movement in the USC School of Theatre and a pioneer in the field of robotic choreography — is using her love of dance to help develop more humanlike robotics.
She has served as a NASA/faculty fellow at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory where she developed a less-jerky robotic satellite repairman and an early prototype of the Mars rover.
"The moment I met a robot, I knew I was meant to make it dance," she says.
