When the Initiative and Referendum Institute joined forces with the USC-Caltech Center for the study of Law and Politics in January 2004, it was a political match made in heaven.
The IRI, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to tracking political trends, moved from its former Leesburg, VA, location to team with the USC-Caltech Center to provide reliable, nonpartisan information on initiatives, referendum and recall measures to the media and policymakers. With California's history of voter initiatives and the center's expertise in law and politics, the IRI could not have found a better home or a better partner.
"This affiliation with the center makes the IRI the leading center for scholarly research on these increasingly important tools of popular government," said John Matsusaka, president of the IRI. "Our relocation has allowed us to work more closely with scholars at USC and Caltech."
