That Matter: Improving Faculty Work

When I speak on college campuses about
academic reform I often paraphrase F. Scott Fitzgerald's comment that
"the test of a first rate mind is to hold two contradictory ideas at
the same time." Academic life is filled with such tests, and this
year has been one long exam for myself. As the work of the Senate
concludes for this academic year I find myself pleased and disappointed.

Faculty President Aims To Increase Senate Communication and Faculty Spirit

Bill Dutton
Bill Dutton is Professor of Communication
at USC's Annenberg School for Communication, where he is Associate
Director. In addition, Dr. Dutton directs the School's M.A. in
Communicatino Management Program and holds a courtesy joint appointment in
the School of Policy, Planning, and Development. In 1999, Bill was elected
to serve as Academic Vice-President of USC's Academic Senate; on July 1,
he assumes the duties of President of the Academic Senate.
