Responsibilities and Rights of Tenured and Tenure-Track Faculty

We have been asked by the Provost and the Executive Board of the Academic Senate to investigate faculty responsibilities and faculty commitment to the university, primarily in relation to procedures for the definition and evaluation of full-time work. We do so gladly. However, we note that faculty responsibilities form a natural partnership with faculty rights, and we submit this white paper with the understanding that faculty rights must also be a focal point of university discussion. Working Relationships Between the Elected Faculty Council/Assembly and the Dean/Chair

The objective of this discussion was to address specific issues concerning the working relationships between elected Faculty Councils, Chairpersons, and Deans, and to propose a working model for the positive exchange of ideas, which would be conducive to improved interactive performance of the academic and administrative leaders in the future. Other News Items

The Academic Senate Retreat for 1995/1996 was held August 25, 1995 in the Seaver Science Auditorium. The Four White Papers prepared by the working groups for presentation at the retreat have been revised to reflect the input of the fifty attendees. These papers will appear in issues of the Academic Senate Forum.

Faculty Development: Margo Apostolos(coordinator). Group members: J. Lawford Anderson, Richard Ide, Tania Modleski and Alice Parker.

Task force on Policies: The Senate Executive Board provided nominees for significant faculty representation on various task forces including Faculty Handbook, Non-Tenure Track Faculty, and Conflict of Interest.

A Data Base has been established jointly by the administration and the Senate to identify faculty for service on University and Senate Committees.

The Faculty Contract revision is currently under development and the Senate is being consulted.

Interaction continues between the Senate and individual councils/assemblies regarding council membership, elections and leaders.
