The University of Southern California is again offering several programs abroad during Summer Session 2005. The purpose is to create opportunities for USC students to learn in an international environment. Each program features intensive courses from two to 10 weeks in duration, and many programs visit more than one country.
Experienced USC faculty serve as instructors, tour guides and coordinators, sharing with students the unique excitement of learning at an overseas location. Excursions to important cultural and historical sites supplement classroom lectures. Housing is prearranged for students in university dorms, hostels, inexpensive hotels or with local families.
These special programs offer travel and study opportunities at reasonable cost; programs planned for International Summer Session 2005 are listed below. Interested students should call the contact person indicated for further information about a specific program.
Marshall School of Business
Internship Program in London, England
One of the most difficult challenges facing professional programs in business is striking the right balance between practical training, experience, theoretical and classroom learning. Companies actively search for students who are tops in their classes with actual experience in their fields. Students pursuing a career in the international arena are limited by the number of available hands-on international experiences and study programs. To address these issues, the Marshall School of Business has created two innovative summer programs.
These programs provide students with theoretical as well as practical experiences working and navigating within the international global environment. The programs, designed around a Marshall course and a seven-week internship, will begin in Los Angeles (May 16-26), and continue in either Madrid or London (May 27-July 22). Students will intern with a firm personally selected based on their interests, background and experience, as well as continue with assignments for the course.
A limited number of scholarships are available to students. In addition to tuition costs, each program has additional fees assessed to cover housing and the placement process. For further information, contact Sean O’Connell, Marshall School of Business, Bridge Hall 103, (213) 740-1206, seanocon@marshall.usc.edu.
Students in London will be housed in shared flats (apartments) located in the South Kensington area of London. The internship placements are within easy access of the flats.
