Summer Housing

TrojanHousing, located in PSX, offers facilities to accommodate the needs of anyone interested in living near USC for the summer who is a member of one of the following eligible groups: (1) students, faculty or staff of USC; or (2) any individual enrolled or participating in a USC-sponsored program. Enrollment in a USC summer course is not required to be eligible for summer housing.

Evidence Required

When you apply for summer housing, proof of eligibility will be required in one of the following forms: (1) current, valid USC ID; or (2) written confirmation of participation in a USC program. When you sign the summer housing contract and at check-in, a valid photo ID will be required.

The program allows qualified individuals the opportunity to rent a space in an apartment for the summer from May 15 to Aug. 9. USC residents holding housing contracts for fall 2006 and requiring a place to stay from the end of summer housing to the start of fall housing must submit a written request to their summer housing Customer Service Center by July 31, 2006.

Relocation to another university housing space may be necessary if the summer and fall housing spaces are different. A separate fee is charged for an extension of the summer contract and must be approved in advance by the Customer Service Center.

Most summer residents live in apartments in North University Park, within walking distance of the USC campus. Housing rates for summer 2006, which will be listed in the summer housing brochure, will be lower than the rates students paid for the same space during the academic year.

Only a limited number of university-owned apartments will be available for occupancy during the summer session. A complete listing of open facilities will be included in the summer brochure. The brochure will be available at any Customer Service Center beginning in late March. All apartments are furnished, except for household items such as pots and pans or linens. Laundry rooms are available in most buildings and each apartment complex offers a variety of amenities. Refer to the Living at USC brochure and the summer housing brochure for details.

Check-in

Check-in is permitted Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Customer Service Center serving your building. If residents need to check in at any other time, arrangements must be made with a customer service representative at least two weeks prior to arrival.

Housing Application

The application is included in the USC summer housing brochure. The priority application deadline for current residents is April 7. A $30 non-refundable application processing fee in the form of a personal check, cashier’s check or money order made payable to TrojanHousing must accompany each application.

Applicants are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, with current residents having priority over new applicants prior to April 7.

Bachelor (one person), studio (one or two persons) and one-bedroom (two persons) accommodations are in heavy demand and short supply, so the probability is that a resident will have more than one roommate, unless additional space in the apartment is bought out by the applicant.

Specific requests for a roommate will be honored whenever possible, as long as applicants adhere to the guidelines for requesting roommates listed in the summer housing brochure.

The contract balance for the duration of a summer stay will be billed to USC students through the Cashier’s Office in King Hall. Any resident who is not a current USC student is required to pay the Cashier’s Office in advance by certified check, money order, credit card or cash. No personal checks will be accepted. Non-USC students must show proof of payment before they may check in to their summer housing assignment.

For further information, contact TrojanHousing at (800) USC-4ME2 or (213) 740-2546, (213) 740-8488 (FAX) or write to: Summer Housing, University Park, Los Angeles, CA 90089-1332. Information can also be found on the TrojanHousing Web site (housing.usc.edu). When writing for an application, remember to enclose a copy of evidence of eligibility.

Eligibility for Services

Services at UPHC are available to students who have paid the current student health fee. During the summer, health fee assessment is based on the number of weeks a student is in class and not on the number of units being taken. Continuing students from the spring semester, who are not taking summer classes, may use the center by paying the summer health fee. Although this fee covers most services rendered at the center, there may be a nominal charge for lab tests, prescriptions, orthopedic appliances, copies of X-rays or copies of medical records. For more information on eligibility and charges, please call the University Park Health Center’s Cashier at (213) 740-0238.

Mandatory Measles Immunization Policy

Note: Copies of X-rays “film” will not be accepted as proof of a chest X-ray. Only a written X-ray report from a physician will be accepted.

Students unable to provide the required documentation will need to receive a PPD skin test and/or chest X-ray. Test results should be submitted to the Immunization Compliance Office in person or by mail: 649 W. 34th St. (PSD), Los Angeles, CA 90089-1624. For additional information, call (213) 740-1163.
