 Faculty Athletic Representative
Clare Pastore, Professor of the Practice of Law at the USC Gould School of Law, was appointed to serve as USC’s Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) on July 1, 2010. The NCAA and the Pac-12 Conference require all member institutions to have a FAR. The Office of the Faculty Athletic Representative consists of the Directors of Compliance under the direction of the FAR. This office is responsible for certifying that student-athletes are eligible for intercollegiate competition by certifying that they have met the academic eligibility standards set forth in the NCAA Bylaws.
In addition, the FAR's office is responsible for providing advice and interpretations concerning the NCAA rules to the Athletic Department administrative and coaching staffs, University administrators, faculty and staff, student-athletes, and alumni groups. The FAR's office is also responsible for investigating possible rule violations and reporting violations to the Pac-12 and the NCAA.
Professor Pastore is an acclaimed legal expert specializing in civil procedure, professional responsibility, and administrative law. A leading member of the California public interest community, Professor Pastore was selected as a Wasserstein Fellow by Harvard Law School in 2005 as part of its program recognizing outstanding public interest lawyers. She played field hockey as an undergraduate at Colgate University, captaining her team as a senior.
