Graduate fellowships and scholarships are awarded to graduate students on a competitive basis by USC schools and departments as well as by outside agencies. The awards consist of tuition credit and/or stipends. Most Ph.D. students at USC are fully supported by fellowships, teaching assistantships, research assistantships or a combination of these funding sources.
Provost’s Fellowship Program
Ph.D. students who show extraordinary promise for a career in university research and teaching are selected for Provost's Fellowships and Provost’s Diversity Fellowships, the most prestigious USC awards offered to doctoral-level students. Nominated by their departments and selected by a faculty committee of internationally recognized scholars, 100 outstanding Ph.D. students are funded each year.
For 2008-2009, the annual stipend is $28,000, in addition to full tuition remission and year-round health and dental insurance.
Annenberg Graduate Fellowship Program
Administered by The Graduate School, the program funds outstanding graduate students in the USC Annenberg School for Communication, the USC School of Cinematic Arts, and the USC Viterbi School of Engineering to work with Annenberg faculty on projects involving cutting-edge communication and digital media research.
Fellows who receive a generous stipend in addition to full tuition remission and year-round health and dental insurance must be nominated by a participating program.
Endowed USC Fellowships
Several endowed fellowships are administered by The Graduate School. Some require candidates to be nominated by their department; others are awarded to students who apply. For more information, visit The Graduate School website.
