FEDERAL STAFFORD LOAN ADVISORY

  • Borrow only what you need. You need not borrow the full amount awarded to you on your Statement of Eligibility. Let us know in writing if you wish to borrow less than the amount awarded.
  • Investigate other sources of financial aid that do not need to be repaid, such as scholarships and Federal Work-Study.
  • Try to make at least some interest payments on any Unsubsidized Stafford Loans while you are at USC, or during your grace period, to reduce your total debt.
  • Tell your lender/servicer if you change your name or address, withdraw from USC or graduate.
  • Wise management of your loan will establish your good credit. Make all payments on time (consider setting up an automatic debit from your checking account) and keep copies of all documents and correspondence.
