Q and A About Health Benefits

Health Benefits at USC

Health coverage that meets the needs of you and your family is one of the most important benefits offered to you by the university. You can choose from two types of medical plans: a preferred provider organization (PPO) and health maintenance organizations (HMO). The PPO (USC Network Medical Plan) gives you the most flexibility in your choice of health care providers. The HMOs (CaliforniaCare, Kaiser Permanente, and PacifiCare) place limits on your choice of health care providers, but provide tighter controls on the costs of health care.

Vision care is provided as part of the USC Network Medical Plan and as an optional add-on to the HMO health plans. You can choose between two dental plans: United Concordia and Delta Dental. A collection of benefits known as Plan C is available at no cost to benefits-eligible employees who have their primary medical coverage elsewhere.

You also may choose to participate in fitness programs—the long-term, miles and miles on the treadmill way—to keep your health up and your health care costs down.
