Q: How much do I need on my USCard?
A: USCard recommends that you have a $100 minimum balance in your USCard discretionary account so you that you have the funds available for your return trip. A trip to LAX costs approximately $50 and a trip downtown may cost around $20.

Q: How do I request a cab?
A: Always tell the driver you’re using USCard! Text your pick-up address to 777222 or call (800) USC – TAXI for your cab. Let the dispatch operator know how many people are in your party & ask for the dispatch operator’s name. USCard recommends that you have a $100 minimum balance in your USCard discretionary account so you that you have the funds available for your return trip. A trip to LAX costs approximately $50 and a trip downtown may cost around $20.

Q: Where can I go? What is the service area?
A: If you plan on using your USCard as payment, you can go to destinations within the service area (City of Los Angeles). Outside of the City of Los Angeles, you will need to use an alternate method of payment.

Q: Can I call anytime?
A: Yes! Yellow Cab is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Q: If I want a 4 or 6 person car, what do I ask for?
A: Just let the dispatch operator know how many people are in your party and they will send out a vehicle that accommodates your group.

Q: I live off campus or am at an off campus location, will they pick me up there?
A: Yes! As long as you are within the service area, just let the dispatch operator know where you are and the cab will be sent to your location.

Q: Can all taxi cabs in Southern California accept USCard?
A: No. Only Yellow Cab of Los Angeles within the service area accepts USCard.

Q: How can I identify Yellow Cab?
A: You can distinguish a Yellow Cab Co. taxi by it’s logo, the City of Los Angeles and the Dept. of Transportation seal and the taxi number will lead with a 6. To view an image of what your cab would look like, click here.

Q: Do I need to come to campus to catch a cab? Where on campus can I wait for my cab?
A: You don’t have to come to campus to catch your cab if you are located at an off-campus location. Give the dispatch operator your location for off campus pick-ups. If you are on-campus, let the dispatch operator know what gate you would like to be picked-up at (Gate 3, Gate 5 or Radisson Hotel for UPC).

Q: How do I use my USCard?
A: When you call for your cab, let the dispatch operator know you are using your USCard for payment & ask for the dispatch operator’s name. When the cab arrives, the driver will verify that you have available funds for your trip. USCard recommends that you have a $100 minimum balance on your discretionary account to ensure you have funds available for your return trip. A trip to LAX costs approximately $50 and a trip downtown may cost around $20.

Q: How do I check my discretionary balance? How do I add funds?
A: Visit www.usc.edu/uscard and click on Manage Your Account. If you haven't registered your account, click on "I'm New Here". It takes just a couple of minutes. Once you have logged in, you can check your balance and deposit money to your discretionary account online. Deposits are real time so you'll be able to use the funds immediately!

Q: Can Faculty and Staff use their USCard payroll deduction?
A: Yes! If you are an active employee of the university and have payroll deduction activated on your USCard, you can pay for your ride with your payroll deduction account. USCard recommends that you have a minimum of $100 credit available on your USCard. A trip to LAX costs approximately $50 and a trip downtown may cost around $20.

Q: How much will I be charged for my trip?
A: Rates are regulated – please review the rate chart. You can always ask the dispatch operator an estimate for the trip.

Q: Can I split the charge?
A: If you want to use your USCard for payment, you cannot split the charge.

Q: How much should I tip?
A: A 15% gratuity is automatically included in your fare.

Q: Do I get a receipt?
A: Yes. The driver will provide you with a receipt for your trip.

Q: Will the driver wait for me?
A: Yes, the driver will wait for a short period of time. The meter waiting time applies, which is $0.30 for each 37 seconds waiting time. This adds up to be $29.19 per hour.

Q: How do I get back to USC?
A: Text your pick-up address to 777222 or call (800) USC – TAXI and let the dispatch operator know your location and your destination. As long as you are with the service area (City of Los Angeles), you will be able to use your USCard for payment. USCard recommends that you have a $100 minimum balance in your USCard discretionary account so you that you have the funds available for your return trip. Q: If I have a customer service problem, suggestion or comment, who do I contact?
A: Please contact USCard Services at (213) 740-8709 or via email at <mailto:uscard@usc.edu>. You can also stop by USCard Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm. If you experience problems or have a comment to make about your service, please be sure to get the Yellow Cab Taxi number (a four digit number, beginning with 6) and the driver’s name if possible.

Q: Can I find out what cab will be picking me up? 
A: Yes, call back (800-USC –Taxi) and the dispatcher can tell you.  You have to call back because the driver has to be dispatched to be identified to you.

21. Q: Can I ask a Yellow Cab driver to drop me off without pulling over to the curb?
A: No, Yellow Cab drivers have to abide by all municipal and state regulations. They risk ticketing & revocation of their commercial driver’s license. Do not ask a driver to violate regulations.

22. Q: Can I flag down a Yellow Cab driver?
A: Los Angeles has just passed a resolution that will allow for the flagging down of taxi cab drivers. Just look for one that is in service! If you are using your USCard, make sure it is a Yellow Cab taxi.
