2. We Need Your Old Photos!
Do you have any old photos of the University Club? We are in
the process of developing a history section to our web site and
want to include some photographs. We don't have too much here in
theoffice so if you have any old pictures that show the University Club in any stage of its history, we would love to have them!
We will be sure to give proper credit on the web site for any items that
we include in the final project. Please email Ed
Kasky or leave a message at x10826 if you have anything you think might

USC has close ties to the new Disney Concert Hall. Architect Frank Gehry
graduated from the USC School of Architecture in 1954. Close to one-third
of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, which makes its home in Disney Hall, are
alumni or faculty of the USC Thornton School of Music. Sunday, April 18,
the USC Symphony will perform a special concert in Disney Hall. The program
includes the world premiere of Thornton faculty Frederick Lesemann’s “Grand
Hope Crossing,” which was composed in celebration of the Disney
Hall performance. With so many connections, it was only natural for our
next Lunchtime Speaker Series to look at the impact of Disney Hall on Los
Angeles.

8. Recipe of the Month
(By Special Request)
Adapted from In
the Kitchen with Rosie by Rosie Daley
Vegetarian Broccoli and Three Cheese Soup
3 cups broccoli florets and peeled stems (1 lg. bundle)
3 1/2 cups water
1 1/2 cups chopped leeks, washed well (white only)
1/3 cup grated cheddar cheese
1/3 cup grated Monterey jack cheese
1/3 cup grated gruyere cheese
3 tbsp. vegetable oil
2 tbsp. flour
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 garlic clove, peeled and minced
3 tbsp. fresh chopped basil
Freshly ground black pepper and salt to taste
Heat oil in saucepan over medium heat. Sauté leeks for 3 minutes
or until slightly transparent. Add garlic and sauté for 2 more minutes.
Add broccoli, water and nutmeg and bring to a boil. Reduce to a slow boil
and cook until broccoli is tender and can be pierced with a fork. Approx.
10 to 15 minutes.
Remove from heat and cool slightly. Puree in batches in blender adding
a little flour to each batch. Return to saucepan, add cheeses, basil, salt
and pepper and heat through, but do not boil; stir frequently.
Serve hot in heated soup bowls. Garnish with toasted croutons or some grated
parmesan cheese.
