The concert includes three Thornton School ensembles to be preceded by a pre-concert recital of four high school quartets, capping off a semester-long "Beethoven Celebration" project launched by the Thornton Strings department.
A pre-concert performance featuring musicians from select area high schools: 6:30 p.m.
The Beethoven Celebration project consists of immersive study, masterclasses, and other sessions in addition to an outreach program involving a dozen Los Angeles area high schools in an initiative developing string quartets from each school. These student groups will participate in a series of public and private coaching sessions led by Thornton School professors Che-Yen Chen, Karen Dreyfus, Cindy Wu, and other members of the school’s Strings faculty.
