The USC Thornton Jazz Orchestra, directed by Shelly Berg, performs original jazz compositions by members of the Thornton faculty.

Artistic director Shelton Berg will lead the Thornton Jazz Orchestra in a concert presenting original jazz compositions by members of the Thornton School faculty. The performance will feature Grammy-winning composer Vince Mendoza’s “Mosaic,” Grammy-winner John Clayton’s arrangement of Thelonius Monk’s “Evidence,” a work of Mr. Berg entitled “For J.R.” and new works by Kim Richmond and Kari Harris.

The USC Thornton Jazz Orchestra is an 18-piece ensemble featuring the most talented and outstanding jazz studies students from the Thornton School. Through innovative concerts and collaborations with major jazz musicians, the group explores the stylistic possibilities of the jazz orchestra. Shelton Berg, the dynamic director of the Thornton Jazz Orchestra and chair of the USC Thornton Jazz Studies Department, is an accomplished jazz pianist, composer, arranger and educator.
