A screening of El jardín del edén/The Garden of Eden by María Novaro [1994].

USC Fisher Gallery, the Consulate of Mexico in Los Angeles, and the Critical Studies Division, USC School of Cinema-Televison, present a screening of El jardín del edén/The Garden of Eden by María Novaro [1994].

The U.S.-Mexican border is the setting for this trio of tales surrounding displaced individuals looking for a better life. The stories crisscross as all parties are in search of something that could lead them down a brighter path. Seeking the garden of eden are a Chicano widow with her children seeking a new life for themselves, a young white woman in search of her brother, and a migrant farm worker attempting to cross the border. Their lives all intersect at the border near Tijuana. Maria Novaro, arguably the most successful Mexican woman filmmaker, followed up her international hit, "Danzon," with this magical ensemble piece. Best Picture Winner at the Mexican Academy Awards.
