Celebrating the 400th anniversary of the birth of Venetian Composer Francesco Cavalli.

This year marks the 400th anniversary of the birth of Venetian Baroque composer Francesco Cavalli. To celebrate this occasion the Thornton Early Music Ensemble will perform a concert featuring vocal and instrumental music by Cavalli and some of his famous contemporaries inlcuding Barbara Strozzi, Maurizio Cazzati, Pietro Andrea Ziani and Johann Heinrich Schmelzer. Director James Tyler leads the 21 member ensemble that specializes in performing music over 200 years old. Utilizing modern copies of ancestral instruments and performance styles from the era when Michelangelo was painting ceilings, the Thornton Early Music Ensemble attempts to revive what was once the popular music raging through the castles and churches of Europe.
