Artist Mariana Botey discusses her video installation, "The Motives of Cain."

Mariana Botey discusses her experimental film adaptation based on "Los Motivos de Cain," a short novel by Mexican author José Revueltas, which chronicles Sergeant Jack Mendoza, who deserted the United States armed forces while fighting in North Korea. The film, featured in USC Fisher gallery's exhibition "Mixed Feelings: Art and Culture in the Postborder Metropolis," presents three segments of the novel in the form of abstract narratives. Each scene reflects the metaphor of the novel: the other, the border, and the logic of the cold war.
