Howard Giles of the Department of Communication at UCSB will discuss the communication patterns between younger and older adults.

Research has shown that communication between younger and older adults in the Western societies is fraught with many difficult problems. In this presentation, Professor Giles from the University of California Santa Barbara focuses on East Asia where people traditionally show respect and honor toward elders. He seeks to understand not only whether our theoretical stance will work in these difficult cultural terrains, but, also, whether they provide a remedy for creating an intergenerational climate which is healthier as we age.

USC Annenberg events are free and open to the public. Reservations are requested. To RSVP, please call 213-740-5658 or email the activated link.
