Listen as Charles Gaines discusses the ways in which his kinetic sculpture Airplanecrash Clock (1997) directly alludes to our cultural fascination with disasters.

Gaines’ kinetic sculpture, "Airplanecrash Clock" (1997), hauntingly pre-dates the tragedies of 9/11. This thirteen-foot work features a toy plane arching over a scale model of a city. The plane falls and is wallowed by a revolving trap door once every 7.5 minutes. The door’s flip side replicates a crash scene.
