The USC Thornton Symphony brings classical music downtown.

Maestro Sergiu Comissiona and the Thornton Symphony return to the historic Orpheum Theater for an evening of orchestral magic and brilliant orchestration. This concert features Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, Stephen Hartke’s The Ascent of the Equestrian in a Balloon and Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 2, with the gifted and lovely soloist Lucy Chuang.

Steven Hartke is a Thornton faculty composer of widely growing stature whose works have been performed by the New York Philharmonic, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Moscow State Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. His recent composition for the Hilliard Ensemble, Tituli, was announced as one of the top three finalists for the 2001 Pulitzer Prize in Music.
