Urban Growth Seminar Series

How Parking Requirements Dictate Land Use: New Insights for Smart Growth

Sponsored by School of Policy, Planning, and Development

Tue, November 12, 2002 from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm

Admission: Free

Ralph and Goldy Lewis Hall (RGL)
University Park Campus

The speaker, Don Shoup, is a long-time scholar of parking requirements and how they shape urban design and land use.

His recent research uncovers the origins of current parking requirements and shows how these suburban models have been imposed in denser, urban areas.

Responding to his talk will be Genevieve Giuliano, a USC professor who also directs the METRANS transportation research center.
