The program will include composer-in-residence Michael Daugherty’s tribute Bells for Stokowski, the Petite Symphonie by Charles Gounod, Leonard Bernstein’s charming Overture to Candide, Circuits by Cindy McTee and Wallingford Riegger’s Music for Brass Choir.

Composer-in-residence Michael Daugherty is known for his unique concert music inspired by contemporary American popular culture. His popular works include the Metropolis Symphony, inspired by the Superman comic strips, Desi, a Latin big band tribute to Desi Arnaz, a piano concertino entitled Le tombeau de Liberace, Sing Sing: J. Edgar Hoover, a work featuring the voice of the infamous FBI director and Elvis Everywhere for three Elvis impersonators and string quartet.

An internationally acclaimed musician, H. Robert Reynolds is the preeminent conductor and educator in college/conservatory-level wind playing. For nearly 20 years he has directed the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings, and until his recent retirement, Maestro Reynolds was director of university bands and instrumental studies at the School of Music of the University of Michigan.
