Brazilian director, social activist and Theater of the Oppressed founder Augusto Boal presents his "Legislative Theater."

The process -- which Boal developed during his tenure as a city councilman in Rio de Janeiro -- is intended to maximize popular input on laws that govern such civic issues as education, health and environment.

Following a discussion about his experiences with the techniques in Brazil, Boal will demonstrate the local possibilities with two scenes: one on immigration rights, prepared by LAUSD students and teachers, and another on gang profiling, prepared by the California Youth Justice Coalition.

Los Angeles City Councilman-elect Martin Ludlow, 10th District, will participate in the demonstration.
