Dr. Fred Cutler, Executive Director, UCSD CONNECT, discusses the state of high tech and life sciences industries in San Diego.

Dr. Cutler is a successful entrepreneur and one of the leading advocates for emerging growth technology companies. He founded DigitalStyle Corporation, a Web software start-up that merged with Netscape Communications. He holds market research and social psychology doctorates from the University of Southern California.

UCSD CONNECT is the globally recognized, university-based public benefits organization fostering entrepreneurship in the San Diego region by catalyzing, accelerating, and supporting the growth of the most promising technology and life sciences businesses. Since it was founded in 1985 at the urging of San Diego's business community, UCSD CONNECT has been widely regarded as the nation's most successful regional program linking high-technology and life science entrepreneurs with the resources they need for success: technology, money, markets, management, partners, and support services.

Since its inception, CONNECT has assisted more than 800 technology companies. Its programs serve as a catalyst for the development and exchange of ideas, a forum to explore new business avenues and partnerships, and an opportunity to network with peers. Because of its success, the CONNECT model has been replicated in other cities and countries, including Scotland, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.
