Clara Gharibian, Chloe Kwak and Allison Lieskovsky exhibit their senior thesis project.
Ignis Fatuus is Latin for “foolish fire,” in meteorology a mysterious light seen at night flickering over marshes; when approached, it advances, always out of reach.
While this group of artists has a diverse background, they come together for a show on a very up close and personal experiences of illusion.
Gharibian’s photography explores the relationship between the non-participant mass audience and the realities of war; the desensitized representation of the war by the media; the true stories of migration and personal feelings and experiences of home, displacement and belonging.
Kwak’s portraits, still life drawings and fashion figures look into both illusions of beauty fed to us by the mass media and also the traditional forms of beauty and perfection.
Lieskovsky’s paintings deal with complications that arise with maturation, being a female in a world that still largely objectifies women and the pressures the media pushes on society to be beautiful.
