George Lucas returns to his alma mater to screen and discuss his 1971 debut film – originally conceived as and expanded from a student project – about an escape from a futuristic society located beneath the surface of the Earth.
Fully-restored to the director’s original vision, the film, recently re-released in theaters and on DVD, stars Robert Duvall and Donald Pleasence.
From its unusual non-linear story structure to its unique use of light, sound, color and camera techniques, “THX 1138” also served as the premier film from American Zoetrope, the revolutionary independent studio founded by filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola.
The USC School of Cinema-Television’s 75th anniversary alumni screening series features a sample of alumni work in many genres of film, each featuring alumni in key creative positions.
A Drew Casper-moderated question-and-answer session with Lucas (’66) follows the feature.
This screening is strictly by-reservation-only. Please call 213-740-3332 to RSVP.
