USC Trojans Day in Los Angeles

Sponsored by University of Southern California, USC President's Office, USC Athletics Department and the City of Los Angeles.

Wed, January 21, 2004 at 10:00 am

Admission: Free

Los Angeles City Hall
200 N. Spring Street
Los Angeles, CA
90012

The city of Los Angeles honors the 2003 national champion USC football, women's volleyball and men's water polo teams.

Following a ceremony on the steps of City Hall, the teams will return to USC's Cromwell Field on double-decker buses, parading down Figueroa Street at approximately 11:15 a.m.

A campus-wide rally is scheduled for noon on Cromwell field.

USC President Steven Sample and Trojan athletic director Mike Garrett, along with the Trojan Marching Band and the USC Song Girls and Yell Leaders, then will participate in a noontime campus ceremony that will include each squad's coaches and players. Each national championship trophy will be on display.

The Trojan football team (12-1) captured the Associated Press national championship when it beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

The Women of Troy volleyball team capped an undefeated (35-0) season when it beat Florida to capture its second consecutive NCAA crown.

The USC men's water polo team (24-3) beat Stanford to win its second-ever NCAA title.

All three squads featured coaches who were National Coach of the Year honorees (football's Pete Carroll, volleyball's Mick Haley and water polo's Jovan Vavic).

All three teams also will be honored separately by two other government bodies: The California Senate in Sacramento will salute representatives of each team, as will the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Dates of those presentations will be announced later.
