For the 25th consecutive year, volunteers swim in the annual aquatic fundraiser for the Physically Challenged Athletes Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to students who have overcome life-challenging accidents or illnesses.
Swim With Mike originated in 1981 as a swim-a-thon to buy a van with hand controls for USC All-American swimmer Mike Nyholt, who had broken his neck in a motorcycle accident. It expanded into an annual event that now raises funds for disabled athletes, including non-USC students.
Nyholt returns to swim each year.
Typically, more than 1,500 spectators turn out for the festivities.
In the past notable alumni, celebrities, and Olympians have attended, including Lenny Krazelberg, Eric Vendt, Lindsey Benko, Klete Kellar, Olympic coach Mark Schubert, John Naber and Bruce Furniss.
