Julie Eizenberg, an Australian émigré and founding principal of Koning + Eizenberg, discusses several of the firm’s recent high-profile projects, including the Pittsburgh Children’s Museum and the Standard Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
Eizenburg and partner-husband, Hank Koning, vow to never design anything that they themselves would not want to live in or visit; consequently, their Santa Monica, Calif.-based firm approaches every project with the same attention they gave to designing their own home.
Other firm projects include the Herb Alpert Educational Village, a renovation of the Los Angeles Farmers Market and a single room occupancy hotel for the Skid Row Housing Trust.
