Los Angeles based artist, curator, writer and educator Christopher Miles discusses his critical and curatorial work.
An alumnus of USC, Miles is currently an assistant professor of art theory and criticism in the art department at California State University, Long Beach.
Miles has contributed catalog and exhibition essays for projects at venues including the Hammer Museum, the Luckman Center at the California State University at Los Angeles, and the Montgomery Gallery at Pomona College.
He presently writes for Artforum, Artforum.com, Art in America, Artweek, Flaunt and Frieze.
His curatorial credits include Conceptuesque and Crazy for You – both video and film programs curated for the 2002 LA Freewaves festival – and One Wall, an exhibition of video work by seven Los Angeles area artists at the Orange County Museum of Art. His latest curatorial project, Thing: New Sculpture from Los Angeles, co-curated with James Elaine and Aimee Chang opens at the UCLA Hammer Museum in February 2005.
Miles is a recipient of the 2004 Penny McCall Foundation Award for distinction in the fields of art writing and curating.
