Jazz @ USC closes with The USC Thornton Jazz Orchestra performing with special guest vocalists Carmen Bradford and Jamie Davis.

The USC Thornton Jazz Orchestra is an 18-piece ensemble featuring the most talented and outstanding jazz studies students from the USC Thornton School of Music. Through innovative concerts and collaborations with major jazz musicians, the group explores the stylistic possibilities of the jazz orchestra and concentrates on the hard swinging style of the classic big bands. The flagship of the jazz studies department, the ensemble performs worldwide at jazz festivals, as well as for marquee television and live performing arts events.

Shelton Berg, the dynamic director of the USC Thornton Jazz Orchestra and chair of the USC Thornton Jazz Studies Department, is an accomplished jazz pianist, composer, arranger and educator.

Carmen Bradford, adjunct assistant professor, USC jazz studies, studied classical music at Huston-Tillotson College. She has worked on performance and recording projects with the likes of James Brown, Lou Rawls, Willie Nelson, Lena Horne, Tony Bennett, Joe Williams, Nancy Wilson and Herbie Hancock.

Jamie Davis is an alumnus of the Count Basie Orchestra and has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe under his name and with the Basie Band. Mr Davis possess a rich baritone voice that is equally at home whether singing a ballad or swinging and scatting an up tempo tune.
