Noted speakers from diverse fields in law and the humanities will explore historical approaches to intellectual property. Discussions will cover the "linguistic turn" in patent law and intellectual property as an international cultural right.
This symposium will feature three distinguished speakers from diverse fields in law and the humanities, highlighting historical, philosophical and anthropological approaches to intellectual property. Margaret Jane Radin, professor of law at Stanford Law School, will present "The Linguistic Turn in Patent Law," with comments by Douglas Lichtman, professor of law at the University of Chicago, and Paul St. Amour, associate professor of English at Pomona College. Oren Bracha, assistant professor of law at the University of Texas, will speak on "Original Authorship Revisited," with comments by Mark Rose, UC-Santa Barbara vice provost and professor of English, and Catherine Fisk, professor of law at Duke University. Rosemary Coombe, professor of Law, Communication, and Cultural Studies at York University, will talk about "Intellectual Property as an International Cultural Right: Rights and Significant Differences," with comments by Douglas Thomas, associate professor of law at USC Annenberg School for Communication, and Madhavi Sunder, associate professor of law at UC-Davis. Cost is $10 for registration and lunch; $5 for students.
