Faculty bassoonist Judith Farmer celebrates the peculiar charms of her instrument in an unusual concert to fund bassoon scholarships at the USC Thornton School of Music.
Program highlights are Beethovens Septet in E-flat, a stately divertimento that enjoyed great popularity in the composers lifetime; and Impressions, a contemporary piece by composer Gernot Wolfgang, likewise scored for septet. Farmer also solos on Malcolm Arnolds Fantasy for Bassoon, and pairs with USC faculty bassist Nico Abondolo in Albert Roussels Duo pour Basson et Contrebasse. Joining Farmer are top area musicians, including Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra concertmaster and USC faculty violinist Margaret Batjer.
