Norma and Maria Luisa Andrade, whose daughter and sister is among the many hundreds of victims of violence against women in Cuidad, Mexico, will speak about seeking justice for the mestiza workers in this area.
Across the border from El Paso, Texas, more than 370 women have been murdered in Ciudad, Mexico. Seventy women are missing. One of the victims, Lilia Alejandra Gardia Andrade, has inspired a movement seeking justice for the hundreds of mestiza workers who have fallen victim to a wave of violence against women in this factory border town. Andrade's mother and sister -- Norma and Maria Luisa Andrade -- will talk about the violence and what can be done about it at "No Mas: Creating a Community of Non-Violence" Tuesday, March 22, at Taper Hall of Humanities. Preceding the talk will be an art exhibit and Aztec dancing, as well as a short documentary with a speaker from Amnesty International. Refreshments will be served.
