USC School of Architecture Lecture Series

Sponsored by USC School of Architecture

Wed, September 14, 2005 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Admission: Free

USC Gin D. Wong, FAIA Conference Center (HAR)
University Park Campus

San Diego architect Jonathan Segal, FAIA will discuss his alternative approach to the practice of architecture in the 21st century.

Jonathan Segal FAIA is redefining the role of the traditional architect by eliminating the client and developing, constructing and designing his own work. He has designed, developed, and constructed National award winning and trend setting single family, medium to high-density residential, live/work, and mixed-use housing in downtown San Diego and La Jolla, California since 1988.

Throughout his career, Segal has been devoted to the interests of downtown San Diego. Staunchly opposed to insensitive development, he is adamant about preserving historic and important architecture while integrating new development. He has received numerous national, state, and local design awards including several which underscore that his standout talents have come at an early age. He has won the most National AIA and State of California AIA Honor Awards for Urban Housing of any San Diego architect; he was named by the San Diego Union Tribune as one of “Four Architects” in the city’s history that have made a difference; in 2003, he was named to the AIA’s College of Fellows, FAIA – the youngest San Diego architect to receive the title; he was honored as Residential Architect Magazine’s 2004 National Rising Star; and this year, he received Residential Architect’s highest honor for The Prospect, a mixed-use residence in La Jolla, CA.
