Enjoy the Cultural Life at USC

At USC, a lot of education happens outside the classroom. And you can participate in the rich cultural life this creates by attending some of the many events presented each year: performances by the schools of theatre and music, lectures and discussions on everything from Renaissance art to current politics, exhibits at the Fisher gallery and the libraries, USC Spectrum events (which brings performers from around the nation and the world onto campus), and Vision and Voices: The USC Arts and Humanities Initiative.
Tickets to most events are available through the USC Ticket Office, which provides online ticket purchasing on its Web site at www.uscticketoffice.com as well as through their UPC office on the first floor of the Student Union Building. Their Web site includes an extensive events calendar. Staff and faculty receive discounts on tickets for many events. Many events are also posted online on the USC Arts and Events calendar (click on the arrow to the left of "Arts and Events Calendar" on the USC home page).
USC Performing Arts

On the University Park campus, our School of Theatre offers nearly 30 plays and independent student productions each year, while our Music School produces more than 400 concerts and recitals, ranging from opera to jazz. A particular favorite of staff and faculty has been the "Music at Noon" recital series each Wednesday at the United University Church.
Fisher Gallery

Discover art spanning five centuries at USC Fisher Gallery, the museum of the University of Southern California, founded in 1939 by Elizabeth Holmes Fisher and accredited by the American Association of Museums. The gallery houses a permanent collection of some 2,000 objects and features exhibitions of local, international, and emerging artists. Throughout the academic year, the gallery sponsors special programming that includes noon time concerts, poetry readings, docent tours, lectures, art workshops, plus evening receptions and weekend family days designed to introduce the arts to a wide range of audiences.
Admission and Public Programs are always FREE OF CHARGE at Fisher Gallery. Visit Fisher Galley from Tuesday through Saturday, 12 noon to 5 p.m. USC Fisher Gallery is on the university calendar; closed on university holidays and during the summer months.
Visit the Fisher Gallery Web site where you can sign up for their newsletter that will keep you updated on all of USC Fisher Gallery's events.
USC Spectrum

USC Spectrum, a program of the Division of Student Affairs, presents an annual season of the finest in arts and lecture programs by nationally and internationally known attractions for the education and entertainment of the USC community and its neighbors. Spring 2008 events include performances by Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band, and a lecture by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Visit their Web site or contact USC Spectrum at (213) 740-2167 or arts@usc.edu for answers to any questions you have about programs or to be put on their mailing list. Tickets to Spectrum events are available at the USC Ticket Office. The price of the tickets varies depending on the type of event you would like to attend.
Visions and Voices: The USC Arts and Humanities Initiative
Visions and Voices is a university-wide initiative established by Provost C. L. Max
Nikias. The initiative is designed to use the arts and humanities to enlighten and engage USC students. The series features a wide array of events both on and off campus, including theatrical productions, music and dance performances, film screenings, art exhibitions and conferences. While the initiative was created for students, space is available for faculty and staff at most events. In spring 2008, you could join our students for a concert of Persian music by the world-renowned Lian Ensemble, a festival of Eastern European films, an evening with writer Carole Muske-Dukes and actor John Lithgow, a panel discussion on the meaning of California and much more. For more information and a complete schedule of events, visit the Visions and Voices Web site.
