Awilda P. Bregand

Awilda is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for the administration of USC's benefit programs, as well as directing the day to day operations regarding eligibility, education, enrollment and counseling for the health care, retirement, education, financial, and quality of life programs that USC offers its 16,000+ benefits-eligible employees at all USC locations. She joined USC in 2002 after a stint at the Jim Henson Company where she was director of human resources and benefits for east and west coast operations. Prior to that, she held benefit manager positions within the entertainment industry with such companies as Universal/Sega GameWorks and CBS. Awilda holds the Professional in Human Resources certification from the Society for Human Resources Management, and is currently completing a USC degree in art history. She is an avid Trojan football fan.

Lyn Miller
Assistant Director

Lyn supervises the benefit counselors and assistants, and counsels incoming faculty regarding benefits choices. She also provides counseling for faculty and staff on retirement preparedness, and handles various retirement components such as Supplemental Retirement Maximum Allowable and the 457b Deferred Compensation plan, as well as all divorce-related issues. When there is a need for a life insurance claim, Lyn works with the family and files the employer portion. Lyn came to USC in 1995, and holds certificates in human resources (from a rival in-town university!) and in employee benefits from Wharton.

Teri Aparicio
Program Manager

Teri manages the non-exempt staff retirement plan, counsels employees on benefit payment options and retirement issues, and processes payment changes and income verifications for retired employees and beneficiaries. She also supervises the retirement assistants. Teri has been at USC since 1974, and has worked in a variety of capacities throughout the university.

Kevin Johnson

Kevin counsels employees leaving USC regarding COBRA benefits and handles general health and retirement issues. He acted as COBRA administrator for Delta Care PMI prior to his arrival at USC in 1998. Kevin enjoys the symphony, musical theatre, exploring new restaurants and traveling.

Suzanne LeAnce
Benefits Counselor

Suzanne counsels staff and faculty on health benefit questions and issues, and handles hardship withdrawals (retirement). She also processes tuition assistance for dependents, spouses and domestic partners. Suzanne came to USC in 2011 after working in the advertising and entertainment industries as an HR/benefits/operations manager. She is a USC alumna and diehard Trojan football fan.

Ginger Shellman

Ginger handles biweekly retirement and 403b retirement transfers. She came to USC in 2012 after working at Computer Sciences Corporation. Ginger has a master's degree in education counseling from Cal State Dominguez Hills, and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Cal State Long Beach. She particularly enjoys acting as an advocate for employees and making sure they know about their benefit options.

Ileana George

Ileana processes retirement loans for the USC Retirement Savings Program, and processes retirement eligibility for new hires and rehires. She came to USC in 2011 after working as an HR/payroll administrator for La Opinion newspaper. Ileana holds a bachelor's degree from Cal Poly Pomona in business administration with an emphasis in human resources.

Delores Hills

Delores coordinates Workers' Compensation and Disability claims. She has been with USC since 1985.

 

Elizabeth Palma
Personnel Assistant

Elizabeth processes biweekly disability payments, determines employee eligibility for disability coverage, and serves as liaison to USC's third-party disability provider, Sedgwick. She has worked in the Disability Office since 1995 and holds an associate's degree in office administration from Los Angeles City College, a WCCP Workers' Compensation Professional Certificate from IEA, an Office Administration Certificate from USC Professional Development, and is currently enrolled at Harvest Bible College. Elizabeth's greatest joy is spending time with her family.

Stephanie Lara

Stephanie counsels employees on taking distributions from the defined contribution retirement plan, and processes those distributions. She arrived at USC in 2006 after working for Iron Mountain. Stephanie loves animals and shares her home with a Yorkie named Lady.

Nancy Martiz

Nancy counsels employees on taking loans and withdrawals from the defined contribution retirement plans. She came to USC in 2013 after working as the benefits administrator for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Nancy holds a master's degree in Public Policy and Administration from Cal State Long Beach, a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Smith College, and an HR Management certificate from UCLA. She enjoys spending time with her dog Pumpkin, cycling, jogging, and traveling abroad.

Loretta Rodriguez

Loretta processes new hire and life event enrollment transactions for UPC employees, as well as staff recognition awards for both campuses. She arrived at USC in 2004 after working for Los Angeles County Community Development Commission Central Services. Loretta has been married for 24 years and is a mother of 3.

Rosie Tellez
Benefits Assistant

Rosie assists both staff and faculty with benefits information, primarily relating to medical and dental plans. She processes all medical and dental online enrollments for new employees, and life event changes for HSC employees. She also works with Local 11 medical/dental plans, and processes court-ordered documents. Rosie joined USC in 1989 and is currently working on a Group Benefit Specialist certification. She serves on USC's Staff Assembly.

Lana Quan
Receptionist

Lana greets employees who visit Benefits at the Credit Union Building, directing them to the appropriate staff members for assistance. She handles photo and signature verifications for employees applying for loans or withdrawals, facilitates parking for visitors, and handles various office duties for both Benefits and Retirement, as well as reception duties for the entire Human Resources division. Lana joined USC in 2008; prior to that she was a title assistant for 25 years.
