Current Events of USC Deckmasters of Semester 952

July 29-30, 1995- Card Con VI: The monthly M:tG tournament at the LA Wyndham (formally the Hyatt). Greg Freese and Michael Nickoloff attended the event. They did average on the first day, with Greg placing in the round of 16 in Type I sanctioned, and round of 32 in two other Type I events. Michael placed in the round of 64 in Type I sanctioned, round of 64 of Type II, and round of 8 in sealed deck. However, their luck changed on the second day. Wielding 2 decks of fast R/G creatures, Mike and Greg pummeled their opponents and placed FIRST in the Team tournament. Hot Damn!

Nice quote of the day: "I'll tap a taiga for red and i'll pyroblast your time walk. Now, listen, we only get 1 turn each. You don't get another turn before mine. Sorry."- Michael

August 12, 1995- Something Unusual II: Greg Freese planned this small tourney in Eagle Rock. Two Asian-Americans took first and second in the Type I, and Greg took third. In the Team tournament, Scott and Greg took 3rd place after a disappointing loss to the Asian-American team. Mike Nickoloff and Scott Danby judged.

August 21, 1995- Coastalcon I: Michael Nickoloff attended the first M:tG tournament in Orange County ever! Many big names were there like: Henry Stern (2nd Nationals, 3rd World), Mario Robania (6th in Nationals), Mark Rosewater (Writes puzzles for Duelist), and Frank Gilson (17th in DC '95). Henry took first in the Type I, and Jason Chang took first in Type II. Michael Nickoloff took third place in Type II. In Mark Rosewater's Magic trivia, Henry, Mario and Mike finally beat Frank for the first time ever and won first place.
