Current Events of USC Deckmasters of Semester 963

August 30 to September 2, 1996- Gateway 16: Michael Nickoloff, Chad Kultgen, Tom Page, and Tony Shubert attended. On Friday, Michael kicked some ass and took first in the Shadowfist tournament with a Lotus/Dragon deck. On Sat, it was the AI/IA sealed luck PT4 qualifer. Tom had the best record at 5-1-1, but came in 10th, and just missed the single elimination round. What crap. Chad went 3-2 during the day, and Michael went 2-2. Tony sucked as usual and went 0-2 before dropping. On Sunday, Michael played IT LG sealed. His deck included a Rubinia Soulsinger, but couldn't beat the competion, and dropped out at 1-2. However, that night, Michael took second in the Shadowfist tournament. On Monday, Michael played JP sealed. Mike's sealed deck was actually pretty good, but went 1-2, due to the craziness of the other decks that Michael faced.

September 7, 1996- The Saturday Gathering: Michael Nickoloff, Tom Page, and Matt Kent-Stoll attended. Matt went 2 rounds with Chad's Titania Song deck before losing to w/g. Michael played necro and beat a crappy r/g deck first round, and then lost to Frank Gilson in the second. Tom did the best; he went 4 rounds playing necro before losing.

September 8, 1996- PT5 Qualifer in Corona: Michael Nickoloff, and Tom Page attended. Tom played w/g speed and went 2-2 before dropping. Michael played U/W/R/b and went 1-2-1 before dropping. In the IA/AI constructed format, the outpost, glaciers, haups, and the zorb rule!

September 14, 1996- The Saturday Gathering: Chad Kultgen and Matt Kent-Stoll attended. Chad played a titania's song deck and went two rounds before losing to white weenie.

September 20, 1996- Shadowfist sealed deck tournament: Richard Steele, Tom Page, Corey Benjamin, Pat Gillspie, Michael Nickoloff and Rei Nakazawa played. Format was double-elimination, one starter and three flashpoint boosters. Rich took the first game with his 35 card killer deck with the white nijia with the pump-action shotgun. Pat took the second after Rei made bids for victory and was unsuccessful. Tom took the tie-breaker round after geeting a horde of creatures out.
Rich took two easy games in the finals to win first and a Johnny Badhair. Pat took two flashpoint boosters as second, and Tom got a Tomb Spirit for third.

September 21, 1996- PT5 Qualifer in Costa Mesa: Chad Kultgen, Tom Page and Michael Nickoloff attended. Chad played R/G and went 2-2, as his both losses were due to extreme mana screw. Tom went 1-3 playing a kick-ass mono-black deck that had problems to first round stormbinds. Michael went 1-2-1 playing a boring garygohaups deck.

September 22, 1996- Mirage Pre-Release tournament: Tom Page, Rei Nakazawa, Chad Kultgen, Matt Kent-Stoll, Sean Butler, Patrick Gillspie, and Michael Nickoloff attended. It was really cool...and the Mirage cards seemed great. However, X spells, the 'Hammer' and sacred mesa were dominate in the sealed deck. Rei did the best, going 4-1 before losing to Frank Gilson and the 8/8 Maro that came out turn 3 in both games. Ugh. Everyone else did ok, but Pat did not play. Therese Neilsen was on hand to sign cards.

September 29, 1996- The Saturday Gathering: post-it October 5, 1996- The Saturday Gathering: tom's reply. October 5, 1996- Shadowfist: October 12, 1996- The Saturday Gathering: October 13, 1996- Bleacher Blums: October 20, 1996- Bleacher Blums/Slam Pit: Email Scott Larabee for more information.
