The Graduate School Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony
Save the DateHeld the day before the Main Commencement Ceremony, the Hooding Ceremony is a prestigious event at which Ph.D. candidates receive special recognition. Each candidate will receive the hood, symbolizing conferral of the Ph.D. degree, from his or her dissertation chairperson. The 2008 Ph.D. Hooding was our most successful ever, with about 270 students and 170 faculty participating.
Please save the date for the 2009 Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony:

Time: 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Location: Bovard Auditorium
Eligible Participants
- Ph.D. candidates who expect to graduate in December 2008 or in May or August 2009
Mandatory Registration
All participants are required to register online. Registration for the 2009 Hooding Ceremony will begin on February 13, 2009. Watch for more informatrion beginning on January 26, 2009.
USC Schools' Doctoral Ceremonies
The Graduate School hopes that all Ph.D. candidates will attend the prestigious Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony on Thursday, May 14 in Bovard Auditorium. This ceremony is not likely to conflict with other doctoral ceremonies planned at the University. Please check with your own school for ceremonies they might be hosting.
Main Commencement Ceremony
Ph.D. candidates are also strongly encouraged to participate in the Main Ceremony on May 15, 2009. Ph.D. candidates are accorded the honor of marching from Bovard Auditorium through the center of campus, preceding the faculty
