<前言>
其實收到Ad已經很久了；
不過因為之前不常在b上，也沒特別注意留學板，直到近期朋友建議我來逛一逛...
本身欲攻讀的領域是影視製作 (MFA，非MA)。
經過"關鍵字爬文"後發現，雖然今年已有三兩同好在先前分享過錄取文了；
但相關領域，還是偶爾會有人好奇詢問。
於是乎，雖然有點晚，不過還是來跟未來有需要相關資訊的朋友分享一下個人經驗吧。

USC / Film & Television Production / Master of Fine Arts (MFA)
California Insititute of the Arts / Film Directing / MFA (with $10000 a year)
UT Austin / Film & Video Production / MFA (with stipend) --> 不過我沒追問數字
(還有其他，例如UCLA七晚八晚通知我可以備取，但我已經不想理他...
＆其他不是太有代表性的學校Ad就不列了。)

趁機補充一下，film 領域容易被外界混淆，且所學迥異的兩種Master學位 :
1. M.A. (Arts) = "讀"電影，修業期較短，但多半得接著拿PhD才算出師。
2. M.FA. (Fine Arts) = "拍"電影，修業期長上不少。但拿到MFA就算是出師了。

板上數月前幾篇09年同領域的錄取文中，一篇已大致介紹幾所美國知名的film schools;
還有一篇則已經介紹了幾所film school申請時需準備的素材，所以這些我都不再贅述。
(對以上issue有興趣的，請用關鍵字"film"爬文)
比較有補充價值的，我想可以分享我的Resume給有志攻讀此一領域的朋友們。(尤其是
非科班出身者。)
(非欲申請相關領域者，其實以下都可以略過了...不然還蠻害羞的...= =)

of early theater performances in Taiwan by building a digital video database

分享與說明 -- 給欲申請film，或其他相關藝術領域的MFA潛力者
A. Worry None about Your Background
在國內電影教育如此委靡的情況下，相信許多有志出國學電影的人都是"非科班出身"的。
這是劣勢，但其實也是優勢。事實上，美國頂尖的film school，每年都會招收一定比例的
"電影新鮮人"，原因有二:
1.他們很務實地瞭解，實際的電影操作經驗(even 16mm)，除非科班生or在職者，否則
確實不易取得。而對於實拍機會繁如辰星的一流film school來說，他們寧可從頭把你
訓練起，也不願意輕易放棄任何有潛力的"外行人"。
(but of course，you must prove your potential in your application)
2.對於top film schools來說，"skill易學，idea難求"。 許多學校甚至明說他們"需要"一定
比例來自其他領域的學生，以期激蕩出更多的火花。
基於以上兩點，想要攻讀film school的朋友們，其實不必擔心自己先前沒有相關的"專業經驗"。
只要你的經歷可以證明你的creativity，you have nothing to worry about!
上面和諸位分享resume，用意即在於說明此點。雖然我來自文學院，連一天的"專業片場"都
不曾待過；(不過台灣好像也沒有這種東西...). 但我在劇場＆數位影像創作中的成果，顯然一
樣可以獲得專業film school的青睞。
不過，也是有例外的狀況 :
假若你是想申請中等排名的film school，如某些state Univ.或像是CUNY的film school，
他們可就會比較會要求申請者要有正式的"film production"經驗了。
(排名最佳的film schools中，僅有AFI會很重視你之前的"filming"實作經驗。)
B. Aiming at Your The-One Film School
出國學電影不是遊山玩水，更不是一種能以"投資報酬率"來衡量的理性行為。
你的預算是多少？ 預期是什麼？
如果你的家庭背景不若NYU的李安(爸爸是校長)或是UCLA的蔡康永(爸爸是@#$&%$#^)
這兩個問題，一定要在你準備申請學校之前就好好想清楚。
評估過後，如果你傾向保守，
可以申請州立大學系統中的film school，例如Ohio，Florida，
或其他知名的公立學校，Temple，S/CUNY等。
(以上學校，可以參考之前loser1999所發表的錄取文。)
特別值得一提的是UT Austin，
他是在美國的"平價"公立film school當中，公認最好的一所學校。
而也就因為他的C/P值出奇地高，自然使其成為許多"有實力欠財力"者的第一選擇；
因此，這所學校也是相當難申請的。有志者務必要提早準備。
而如果，你愛好同時挑戰身心與財力的極限，想申請頂尖film school，
請不要錯過全美排名始終第一的兩所學校 -- USC & NYU，以及第三名的UCLA。

在台灣也許是因為李安導演的關係，在film領域，NYU的討論度似乎比USC來的高；
(尤其是爬文後發現，某些人似乎還對於USC的某特定領域有些負面的評價...)
But，在影視製作的領域來說，其實全美歷史最悠久，同時也是現今規模與設備最完備
的film school，非USC莫屬。除了有最大的resource pool之外，fund也是全美(=全球)第一。
(當年Steven Speilberg便癡心地想進USC，可惜因為成績不夠好，連續被打槍三屆...)

除了以上大家耳熟能詳的前三志願之外，預算比較寬裕的，也可以一併申請Columbia，CalArts，
以及AFI三所相當專業的學校，這幾間排起來，大概是電影研究所在美國的前六志願囉。
以上學校中，只有AFI (American Film Institue)比較特別。
因為該校強調他們訓練的是"專業人士"，加上修業期較短，
所以該校是top film schools裡唯一會真正要求申請者具備拍片經驗的。
(至於申請這些學校所需要準備的資料，可參考之前dianaspy116所發表的錄取文。)
C. Prepare up ASAP
分享給將來有熱忱出國學電影(或相關領域)的朋友們，
以下三件事，請及早開始準備：
1. Start Your Creation Now.
這一點非常重要。
就現實的考量來說，不論是申請任何領域的MFA(當然包括電影)，
申請資料中最重要的就是你的portfolio以及resume。
因此，不論是在任何領域當中的創作，"質量俱佳"，絕對是申請上的一大必要條件。
針對film領域來說，你的創作並不需要侷限於film production；
電影本身就是各種藝術形式的集合，因此，不論是在哪一個領域當中的創作，
只要能show出你將來成為film maker之後的initiative & creativity，
對你的申請來說，都將是加分條件。
2. Build up Your English Proficiency.
雖然說MFA領域的審核條件，通常是portfolio重於英文成績；
但以film領域來說，英文成績的審核絕對先於portfolio --> 因為那是基本要求。
一般來說，前幾志願的film school都會要求國際學生的iBT至少要達到100分"以上"，
有些甚至還會針對聽讀說寫不同的session有更進一步的要求。
(例如有學校就要求speaking不得低於25分。)
其實這也不難理解，畢竟MFA學位主創作，film領域的MFA更重"集體創作"，
因此，如果Writing或Speaking的能力不夠的話，到了國外可是很難有所施展的。
尤其是台灣有許多學生，通常聽讀一把罩，開口死翹翹...
所以如果是將來有志攻讀此一領域的人，一定要趁早把寫和說的功夫練好才行。
3. Money Money Money.
之前有提過，出國學電影，不是一種能以"投資報酬率"來衡量的理性行為。
除了和所有留學生一樣的學費＆生活費開銷之外，
想要攻讀MFA領域，還得額外準備一筆為數不少的"製作費"。
(每學期約一兩千∼數千元不等)
算一算，以USC或UCLA為例，一年花費至少五萬美元↑。
(如果是NYU的話，嘿嘿嘿...)
當然，如果選擇NY或LA以外的學校，生活費當然會減輕不少，但其他開銷都差不多；
除非是選擇州立大學體系當中的film school，學費才有可能會比較便宜。
但是，既然都走到可以出國這一步了，
如果只為了$的因素而直接放棄了top schools，我認為是很可惜的。
因此，如果是有足夠talent的朋友，
個人建議你可以儘早開始累積工作經驗，就算是打工也好，
一方面存自己不足的學費(勿小看"積少成多")，二方面藉此訓練自己的"社會生存能力"，
這些經驗絕對會在你將來實際求學or拍片需要資金時，有實質且可觀的幫助。
以我個人為例，父母的血汗供不太起我念私立學校 (就算供的起我也不好意思)
所以從大學開始，我就一直自己在工作；(同時一邊在雙主修)
幾年下來，存了差不多可以cover自己一年費用的金額，
我才"敢"去申請USC和CalArts這些學校的。 (但是NYU還是望塵莫及就是了...)
事實證明：有申請，有保庇！
如果當初只想單靠家裡的話，可能現在我就只能去唸UT Austin了...
(這樣說有點要被雷霹的感覺XD
其實Austin也是超級好校！只是在我的領域，還是有一定的落差就是了。)

以上囉哩囉嗦說了一堆，目的無非是希望鼓勵諸多有為有守的有志青年們，
尤其是有志於藝術相關領域的MFA潛在申請者 :
及早認識自己、選定方向，及早著手準備，及早累積經驗； and then，
what you want must be yours.
