Biography contains biographies and autobiographies of major and minor Russian artists and architects from A (e.g. Agin) to Z (e.g. Zamirailo), especially of the pre-Revolutionary era, including appreciations of Brodsky, Briullov, Kiprensky, Kuindzhi, Perov, Puni, Repin, Tatlin, Ukhtomsky, Venetsianov, Vrubel, and Zack and many other painters and sculptors. Highlights include Diaghilev's catalogue raisonné of Levitsky's portraits, Suvorin's study of Kramskoi, Kandinsky's Tekst khudozhnika, and the series of monographs published by the Knebel House on Nesterov, Riabushkin, Serov, and Vrubel. Artists of the fin de siècle such as Benois, Chekhonin, Grigoriev, and Somov are especially well represented.
