Performing Arts

The Performing Arts Section is concerned with the evolution of the repertoire, scenography, and technology of the Russian dramatic theater, cabaret, circus, marionette theater, ballet, opera, and experimental dance, especially of the 1910s and 1920s. Apart from books on actual theaters such as Efros' study of the Chamber Theater, the Section includes concert programs for companies such as the Ballets Russes. the Blue Bird and Bat cabarets, and the Meierkhold Theater as well as monographs treating of Diaghilev, Lifar, Stanislavsky, Vakhtangov, and other performers and impresarios. Of particular interest is the large corpus of theoretical and historical materials by Evreinov and Komissarzhevsky.
